The world's first electric car with a range of 800 kilometers is here

Following its presentation in September this year, Lucid may launch its first electric car, a sedan called Air, in early 2021.

Lucid, a startup that was created to produce electric cars, will present its first car, the Air, on September 9th of this year, which the manufacturer claims is the world's first electric car with a range of 500 miles, or nearly 805 kilometers. There has not been an official measurement yet, so it is worth waiting for the final result, and we also know that the range of electric cars in reality is much less than what the cars can do in official measurements.

The company claims that this is the world's first car with a range of 500 miles. The vehicle has not yet been officially tested, so we don't know if the 500 number is just a good advertising gimmick or if it reflects reality, but Lucid claims that the vehicle has achieved 517 miles in independent testing.

Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson told Reuters that the Air will be priced well above $100, with lower-priced versions expected later. For comparison, the Tesla Model S starts at nearly $75.

There is a lot of competition among electric car manufacturers to see which of their cars in a similar category has the longest range, as customers are most bothered by the range issue. Tesla has been the best in this competition so far. The American company announced in June this year that the Model S Long Range Plus achieved a range of more than 400 miles, or nearly 644 kilometers, according to EPA measurements.

Lucid's first model is the Air, followed by an SUV in early 2023, said Rawlinson, who was previously the lead designer of the Tesla Model S.
