The ‘S’ suffix has been used to denote the highest-performance models at Aston Martin since 1953, when the DB3S road-going racing car was the first to be launched. Now the DB12 S joins the DBX S and Vantage S.

The DB12 S is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 700bhp at 6000rpm – 20bhp more than the base model. Maximum torque of 800Nm is available between 3000rpm and 6000rpm. Acceleration to 100km/h takes 3,4 seconds and is dynamic all the way to a top speed of 320km/h.

The “S” feel is complemented by a new exhaust system, which is a four-pipe, stainless steel system tuned to enhance engine frequencies across the entire rev range for greater depth and power. The optional titanium exhaust system amplifies this sound, further enhancing the low, mid and high frequencies, raising the sound level by 1,5 dB, while reducing weight by 11,7 kg compared to the stainless steel system.

Powertrain calibration changes have optimised Launch Control, reducing gearshift times by over 50% and delivering a 0,1 second improvement in 0-100 km/h (0-100 km/h) acceleration. Aston Martin engineers have further refined the accelerator pedal calibration, introducing a more progressive throttle feel with a new S-specific drive-by-wire accelerator map to give the driver even more feedback and control.

The suspension modifications collectively improve front-end confidence and the overall feeling of agility.

Further fine-tuning of the steering calibration and electronic rear differential (E-diff) further improved road holding and power transfer to the asphalt, making corner entry and exit even more powerful.

Another significant development on the DB12 S is the introduction of carbon ceramic brakes (CCB) as standard. Offering increased braking performance and thermal capacity, as well as a significant reduction in unsprung weight, the CCBs – measuring 410mm at the front and 360mm at the rear – deliver linear braking response and consistent pedal feel, as well as impressive stopping power. They also save 27kg of unsprung weight compared to steel brakes, which benefits suspension comfort, steering feel and dynamic handling.

Aston Martin’s Director of Vehicle Performance, Simon Newton, said: “The technology introduced with the DB12 now gives us a unique opportunity to explore a new depth of character and capability within the same vehicle platform. With the DB12 S we have made a series of carefully designed, detailed changes that retain the signature level of refinement, enhance the vehicle’s performance and enhance driver engagement. By adding this greater range of dynamics and performance to the DB12 S, we believe it takes the Super Tourer ethos to an exciting new level.”

Starting from the front, the DB12 St is characterised by a new dual-element front spoiler and new bonnet louvres, both of which serve a functional and aesthetic purpose.

The spoiler visually lowers and widens the DB12 St, giving it a more assertive appearance, while generating downforce and directing airflow over and around the front wheel arches, stabilising airflow and further reducing lift. The bonnet louvres – finished in gloss black or optional 2x2 Twill Carbon – help to channel hot air away from the 4,0-litre V8 engine, while complementing the more aggressive nose of the DB12 S.

Moving to the sides, the DB12 S has been given gloss black sill trims. These continue the line created by the new front spoiler, further enhancing the ground-hugging look. DB12 S badging can be found on the wings, just below the side sills. The hand-forged 'S' badge, available in bright or dark chrome, is accented with red glass enamel.

At the rear, the fixed rear spoiler is very cool and helps with stability. Below it is a new rear diffuser that reduces lift while making room for the DB12 S's signature stacked exhaust tips, framed by a wider rear bumper for maximum visual impact.

Inside, the red anodized finish of the knurled metal speed control dial stands out, which also determines the color of the seat belts, contrasting seat straps, contrasting stitching and headrest embroidery.

An Alcantara® heated sports steering wheel is available as an option, as are the iconic Aston Martin wings on the seat headrests, applied using an industry-first embossing and debossing process for unprecedented precision and sculptural depth.

The DB12 S is available with a choice of three interior trims: Accelerate leather and Alcantara, Inspire S semi-aniline leather and Alcantara, and Inspire S full semi-aniline leather. Both Inspire S packages include S herringbone stitching with micro perforations and an Alcantara headliner. The DB12 S is fitted with 16-way adjustable Sport Plus electric front seats as standard, with optional carbon fibre Performance seats.
